Developing a Business Classification Scheme
Course Overview
A one day workshop that aims to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to develop a Business Classification Scheme for their organisation.
Participants will apply skills and knowledge gained in this workshop to develop a Business Classification Scheme following steps and guidelines from AS ISO 15489.2-2002 Records Management Part 2: Guidelines.
This training is tailored to meet the requirements of the State Records Act and State Records Standards and Guidelines, in particular the requirements for creation, capture, disposal and maintenance of records.

- Developing the Hierarchical Model
- Developing Terminology for Functions, Activities and Transactions
- Developing Scope Notes for Terms
- Compiling a BCS
- Using Technology for Compiling a BCS (ie software – AKA, Term Tree)
- Implementing a Business Classification Scheme
- Reviewing and Maintaining a Business Classification Scheme
