Recordkeeping Fundamentals

Course Overview

This one-day workshop will provide those new to records and information management with the skills and knowledge of basic recordkeeping practices.

The workshop includes theory and practical activities. On completion you will have an understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of recordkeeping and be able to apply these in the workplace.

This training is tailored to meet the requirements of the State Records Act and State Records Standards and Guidelines, in particular the requirements for creation, capture, disposal and maintenance of records.

  • Introduction to Business Records and Information Management
  • Recordkeeping Frameworks Legislation and Standards
  • Records Management Program Elements
  • Recordkeeping Policies and Procedures
  • Recordkeeping Practices: creation, capture, classification, access, maintenance and disposal
  • Recordkeeping tools (Classification Scheme, Thesaurus, Disposal Schedule)
