After decades of being the poor relative of Technology, Information is slowly gaining recognition as a fourth business asset.
An asset that organisations can not afford to take for granted.
Like any business resource (financial assets, human assets and physical assets) data, information and knowledge needs to be managed effectively in order for its potential as a business asset to be realised. To this end Experience Matters has partnered with the Universities of South Australia, Western Cape (South Africa), Lethbridge (Canada), South Carolina (USA) and Texas Woman’s (USA) to research the barriers to and benefits of managing information as a vital business asset. This ongoing global research is being conducted with organisations that include Boeing, the City of Cape Town, National Australia Bank and Wells Fargo. The invaluable insights have enabled us to develop methodologies and tools that we bring to all our projects.
The evidence is incontrovertible – whilst organisations recognise that their data, information and knowledge is vital to their success, they acknowledge that they don’t manage it well. And there are many reasons for that. Yet those organisations that have improved the management of their Information Assets have enjoyed business performance improvements of around 20% per annum. And increased revenue, reduced costs, managed risk and improved staff morale.
The results of the research have been published in academic journals and are also being presented at numerous information industry conferences in Australia and around the world.
